Just a quick look this time at the life and work of German author Irmgard Keun. You can find a good article about Keun, specifically about her work being banned by Nazi authorities, and what happened after that at the Smithsonian website.
Keun wrote in the often-decadent Weimar Republic, just before the Nazis came to power, and her style was the opposite of Expressionism, a style often labeled Objective. Sounds boring, but actually there's a lot of sexual expression in there, and some modern critics have compared Keun's books to novels like Bridget Jones' Diary.
The Artificial Silk Flower Girl is Keun's best known book. I bought this particular edition because I like the cover art.
I borrowed this next one from the library.
