A song which uses the word "gay" to mean cheerful: "It Might as Well Be Spring," from the musical "State Fair." The lyrics go "I'm feeling sort of gay / in a melancholy way..."
Next, a song in which "gay" means happy and energetic: "Twistin' the Night Away." Sa Cooke takes us to a nightclub where "the people are so gay."
Now we have a song with a symbolic rainbow in it: "I've Got the World on a String." Sinatra's singin' about sittin' on a rainbow while he's standin' on a chair.
And last, double points here, I think, for Marvin Gaye singing "Pride and Joy."
Happy Pride Month!
