While helping Crystal move into Charlotte Manor, poor Fred is attacked by a rogue vampire hunter. A chase ensues as Fred does what he can to evade this madman with a vendetta.
Of course this is only the beginning. A new vampire clan is in Winslow, Colorado, and given how the parahuman laws and treaties were written, they have the power to claim Fred as one of their own. With that possibility looming over him and a spy in their midst, Fred and his friends are in just a little trouble.
We meet more of Crystal's surrogate family when we travel outside Winslow to a parahuman-only community in Texas known as Boarback. Here we get to see what parahuman inclusivity could look like.
Fred comes to grips with his accounting firm's desperate need for help. His workload is flooding his personal time, but he is loathe to raise his prices out of reach of ordinary parahumans.
I love the way Fred and his friends tackle their problems. Plus, we're still dealing with the side effects from Fred 2. All of this boils together to make this one of the most diverse and wild Fred books yet. Come on back to Winslow and see how Fred gets out of this one!
