Basil of Baker Street by Eve Titus: Basil #1 -- review by Ellanore Vance

I can't really tell you when i discovered Sherlock Holmes, it seems he was always a part of my childhood. As an extension of that, I adored Disney's "The Great Mouse Detective." I was a grown up person of 30 something before I learned that Basil was a book.

No doubt named by author Eve Titus after Basil Rathbone who immortalized the role  of Holmes on the silver screen, Basil is a detective and founder of the Holmstead mouse community inside the walls of 221 B Baker Street. This is where Basil learns, literally, at Holmes' feet.  Dr. Dawson, Basil's companion, is faithful and fearless.

In this first adventure the pair go in search of a missing set of twins. I warn you there is absolutely none of the plot of  "The Great Mouse Detective," and Ratigan is nowhere in sight. This is quite a nice establishing book. We learn a lot about our characters a the world they live in. After the emotional salt that was Gone, Baby, Gone, this missing child story was a balm to the soul.

I highly recommend this book for the young detective in your life
