In the last couple weeks,we've been singing along to songs we know, as found on YouTube. Shall we keep going? I think yes! If you want to see the first post in this series, with a little info on the book I borrowed from the library. you can click THIS LINK
This week I couldn't pick just one version of "Red River Valley." I did narrow it down to two.
But I was able to choose a definitive version of this next one. Remember the hip-hop version of "Buffalo Gals"? Gives you all kinds of chances to vocalize. And a few Buffalo Boys get to go 'round the outside.
Having said that I'd chosen the definitive "Buffalo Gals,", I have a few versions here that aren't for singing along:
John Hartford fiddles, hums, clogs, and plays jaw harp o this 1977 recording.
Next, movie trivia: The record which is grabbed from the phonograph in the classic film "It's a Wonderful Life" is a brittle 78 rpm disc of "Buffalo Gals."
I'd always assumed the vocalist was Eddie Cantor, only hearing snatches of the song around the dialogue, but it turns out to be a recording by The :Pickard Family.
Hope you are enjoying these song posts based on Heritage Songster. A nice change from words with pictures, I think.
Next week: More singing!
