Florida, Oddly Enough

Now that I’m in my 4th Gulf Coast Florida summer, I believe I’m detecting the subtle changes that signal autumn around here. No, the Oregon grape leaves are not changing color. That’s my flash as I snapped away on the wooden ramp, trying to catch some distant lightening.

Our creek was dangerously low last April, nearly drying up, again. A few days temperatures have dropped into the 80’s, and this will become more frequent, now. I love the first cool mornings, and they’re right around the corner. Putting on a sweater is something to look forward to.
With switching to a new grade level, I’ve noticed my mind working over time on a few worries, lately, and I’m reminding myself to not tell myself stories about them.  Same old work/time related things. Things I want to improve or simply, finally adress.  And as I consider issues I want to correct, I’ll try not to concoct scenarios around them.  None of that helps me; I’m trying to look at the facts and work from there. In the meantime, I’m reading some teacher blogs that are helping me with time and paper management. I don’t understand how I can be organized in some ways, and absolutely not, in others.
Fall is the season of organizing and sorting, harvesting and preparing, and I want to enjoys its savor. I like the inspiration of the cooling, slowing down of fall. There will come that special day when California Dreaming will spontaneously pop out of my mouth as I walk the dog. Then I’ll know it’s really Fall in Florida.

I’m thinking that cloud reminds me of a woman paddling her canoe. And here I am, trying to use that current, in my own vessel. Happy paddling.
